In other exciting, well, pretty cool news, I went to a cabaret-type show on Friday called “Hold Tight, it’s 70’s Night!” It was too great. Thanks to one of the girls who had seen them before, we had front row, centre stage seats (not that we sat all that much) and we spent 2+ hours singing, dancing, laughing and talking back to the people on stage.

All the favourites from the 70’s: “Don’t Go Breakin’ my Heart”, “Waterloo”, “I Will Survive”, “Right Back Where We Started From”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Livin’ Next Door to Alice”, “Super Trouper”, “Kung Fu Fighting”, “All Alone Again, Naturally”, “Nutbush City Limits”, “Proud Mary”, “Saturday Night’s Alright”, “Blame it on the Boogie”, “When I Need You”, “Aquarius”, “Tie a Yellow Ribbon (Round the Old Oak Tree)”, “YMCA”, “Domino”, “Thank You for the Music”, “Take a Chance on Me”, “Spirit in the Sky”, “Blockbuster”, “Yellow River”, plus, plus, plus…

We sang, we danced, we screamed for more, we laughed… we had a great time? Oh yes, that we did.

The show has played at a different venue in Holland every night since April 17th and this Saturday night they're going to be at a theatre fairly close to me... hmmm... maybe I could convince the girls to go again...

I can see again!!!

Hmmm… Perhaps I should elaborate...

I was in Houston 2 weeks ago for the big Offshore Technology Conference and on the Tuesday night (May 1) I managed to lose a contact lens down the sink. My own stupidity as I didn’t put the plug in the drain before I took my lenses out. As you can imagine, I was a little annoyed with myself.

Wednesday morning I found an optical place not far from the hotel and the Dr. (a Canadian from Ontario! It is a small world) fitted me out with a set of soft lenses to do me until I could get back to Holland and order new ones. Yes, I do have glasses but they’re of the ‘very-old-prescription-only-wear-when-getting-up-in-the-night’ variety. So, for 11 days I was stumbling around, ½ blind, and remembering just what it felt like when my prescription needed to be changed (which hasn’t happened for years!).

All that changed on Saturday when I picked up my new lenses. I’m almost back to normal now! Apparently though, it was a good thing that I lost that left lens (which I’d had for like 20 years), because I see now that that eye has changed and I’m going to need a new prescription anyway.

P.S. Losing the lens had nothing to do with the apple martinis or the shot of tequila that was consumed that night. Honest!

It won't be like you'll be missing my posts...
... but my lurking will be suspended for the next week or so while I'm away.

Lurking may resume before May 7th, but if not, certainly after May 7th.

This has been a public service announcement.

A late posting - just can't wait til next week...
OK, so, Monday night I'm flipping through channels and I come across some guy talking about anatomy.
There's a male model standing beside him and as he steps onto his mark, a projection of human musculature is beamed onto his body.
Rather effective, really.

Then, )

So, Monday night tv for me consisted of:
Grey's Anatomy
Men in Trees
2, back-to-back episodes of Friends
Anatomy for Beginners

A veritable couch-potato evening.

The non-countdown continues....
Only one more sleep to go... if I can get through this day... damn.

You'd think that 3 weeks would be enough to get everything organized so that I could go on holiday and not have to worry about leaving stuff to be done while I'm not here, wouldn't you? Well, let me tell you something, I don't think 3 months would have been enough! Anyway, I'm going, even if I'm not ready and I'm not going to stress about it while I'm away either!

Tomorrow morning - 0720 - Amsterdam-Frankfurt-Montreal-Moncton - 1635 local time.
Not too shabby, actually and hopefully there won't be any delays.

Anyway, back to work so I can get out of here on time!

First of all.... Happy Birthday to my nephew Kyle - 6 today! Wish I could be there kiddo!

Second of all... I won't do a countdown here, at least not every day, but... 21 more sleeps until I'm on the Miramichi!!!!!!!!
Yes, the boss has signed the vacation slip, the flight is booked, and now I'm just obsessing about packing and Christmas gifts... although I do have a list started in my head. Anyway, home on my brother's birthday, home in time for Brother Joe's birthday - although I imagine I won't see him until after the fact, and best of all, home for Christmas - just in time to put the lights on the tree... Hmmm, weren't we going to get mum one of those trees with the built-in lights?????

Edit: I got my dates wrong... Kyle's birthday is Sunday, not today... oh well, it's the thought that counts, right???

I was going to post this in reply to a comment on [info]coneycat's journal but decided I should post it here instead. She was talking about a character in a story she's written who could be quote: "the Worst Telemarketer in Canada, who never sold anybody anything and finally got fired when the supervisor caught him listening to another old lady telling him about her health problems. ("Well, she sounded lonely. And besides, I couldn't just hang up--I called her!")" end quote.

The whole thing appeals to my weird sense of humour, maybe it's because I can relate - as far as the old people references go...

And then there's pushy, but from the opposite direction:
I took dozens of orders for pizza at my grandparents' place before people finally clued in...
Caller: 'I'd like to place an order'
Me: 'sure, what would you like?'
Caller: 'blah, blah, blah...'
Me: 'OK, you can pick it up in 40 min or so'.
My Grandfather (shouting): 'What the hell are you doing taking pizza orders?'
Me: 'Well, if they can't get the number right, what makes you think they'll be able to find the place to pick it up?'
My Grandfather: 'Hee hee hee'
My Grandmother (in the background): 'Oh now, you shouldn't be doing that, that's not... I wish they'd get that number changed or someth....'
This was, of course, after telling people that no, they had the wrong number and that they'd have to try another if they wanted pizza, then having the exact same person call back immediately! Now that I think about it, I may be the reason they went out of business... *grin*

Gotta love the CBC quizzes... this one is a couple of weeks old but the archive goes right back to January 13, 2005 and this one... But this one is one of my favourites! The full archive page can be found here...

My scores (out of 10), in the above order of appearance, were: 9, 5, & 8

Eurovision Song Contest...
it's always a source of amusement and this year was no different. Well, no different as far as an amusing way to spend a Saturday evening. The acts, however, were a bit different to what people are used to. I'm talking of course about Lordi the monster rock band from Finland who won.

Totally different from the other acts. Totally. But very amusing!

In the second link, the last paragraph states:
"Earlier this year, NBC announced plans to stage a U.S.-version of the Eurovision Song Contest, with performers selected from each U.S. state."

I'm thinking"Idol" on steroids...
